Each year the Department of Chemistry recognizes the achievement of our students and alumni who have demonstrated outstanding performance in learning, research, and service. These scholarships and awards are made possible through the generosity of faculty, organizations, corporations, and individuals like you.

Chemistry Scholarship Fund

This fund was created to be used for general undergraduate scholarships. It can be used for any scholarship established by the Department of Chemistry. We currently support the Departmental Scholarships for a BS and BA Major as well as the Outstanding Biomedical Science Award.

Chemistry Undergraduate Endowment Fund

This account was also created to be used for general undergraduate scholarships. It can be used for any scholarship established by the Department of Chemistry.

Clear Springs Land Company Chemistry Scholarship

Clear Springs Land is a local company that has endowed money with the Department of Chemistry towards student research. Each year members of the faculty can nominate students who are majoring in chemistry and have contributed through papers or presentations to research.

George Wenzinger Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. George Wenzinger who was a member of the Department of Chemistry faculty from 1963-1999. He was also an emeritus professor. This scholarship is awarded to a senior BS or BA Chemistry major or BMS major who has a strong performance in academics but who also is motivated and interested in chemistry with special emphasis on organic chemistry. The student has also demonstrated excitement about chemistry and is interested in a career in chemistry.

Jay Worrell Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Jay Worrell, who was a member of the chemistry faculty from 1967-2002. He retired as a professor emeritus. This scholarship is awarded to a senior BS or BA Chemistry major or BMS major who has a strong performance in academics but who also is motivated and interested in chemistry with special emphasis on inorganic chemistry. The student has also demonstrated excitement about chemistry and is interested in a career in chemistry.

Named Awards Foundation

This fund was established to recognize and support outstanding undergraduates at the annual‎ undergraduate awards ceremonies‎. Specifically, students are recognized for their achievements in general ‎chemistry‎, analytical chemistry‎, inorganic chemistry‎, organic chemistry‎, and physical chemistry‎. Each of these awards is named for members of the Chemistry faculty who have mentored and contributed to the education of undergraduate students in this department.

T.C. Owen Undergraduate Research

Dr. T.C. Owen was a member of the Department of Chemistry faculty from 1964 to 1998. He also served as the chair from 1974-1978. He maintained his extraordinary service as Emeritus after his retirement. Dr. Owen initiated this scholarship to encourage undergraduate research. Each year members of the faculty can nominate students who are majoring in chemistry and have contributed through papers or presentations to research.
