Research Areas
Jason Perman received his B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of South Florida in 2005. He is currently a graduate research assistant in Dr. Michael J. Zaworotko research group with interest in crystal engineering, supramolecular chemistry and X-ray Crystallography. His ongoing pursuits are to produce functional metal-organic materials (MOMs) applicable in separation, gas storage, catalysis, optics and magnetism. Particular, Jason is involved in green organic synthesis producing imides and imine type ligands for metal-organic synthesis. Additionally, Jason is a research member of the Smart Metal-Organic Materials Advanced Research and Technology Transfer (SMMARTT) team which is currently investigating MOMs for their potential in hydrogen storage and carbon dioxide sequestration. One of Jason duties is to maintain the single crystal X-ray diffractometer.
Design, Synthesis and Characterization of Metal-Organic Materials (MOMs)
- The Box Project functions for the design of MOMs possessing made to order walls.
- The BOX project objectives are to investigate the dependence of hydrogen adsorption in MOMs from varying distance between walls made from organic ligands and study the effect of adsorption when these walls are lined with functional groups.
- The organic ligands (walls) are produced via a cocrystal controlled solid-state synthesis (C3S3), which employs the use of little to no solvent in the synthesis of imides containing carboxylic acid or pyridyl groups used in coordination. 100% yields are attainable with water as a byproduct.
