Research

Brandi Cook has recently received her Master’s degree at USF in the Cellular Biology, Microbiology and Molecular Biology department and will begin her Ph.D. in the Chemistry department in the fall with the support of the Florida Education Fund, McKnight Doctoral Fellowship. Her purposed research is to better define the origin of life through determining how the biochemical make-up of living organisms initiated, specifically, how living organisms became preferentially composed of L-chiral amino acidsand D-carbohydrates. The proposed research aims to determine the evolution of dominant chirality of biological amino acids using molecular dynamics-based software systems for modeling organic and bioorganic molecular interactions and reactions.
