Thank you for your interest in our degree programs. To view all of our degrees and the required coursework for each, please visit our website: http://chemistry.usf.edu/undergrad/degree.
Orientation is mandatory for newly admitted USF students. If you have been accepted to USF but have not scheduled your Orientation, please click on the following link to sign-up: Transfer Student Orientation.
You will be able to register for classes after you have attended the Mandatory Orientation. As part of the Orientation program, there will be advising presentations on both the USF General Education requirements and the specific Chemistry requirements. These will provide you with an opportunity to ask any last minute questions before you register for classes.
Once you have been accepted to USF, declared your major, and scheduled your Orientation, you should make an appointment with an academic advisor through our online scheduling system available at: Chemistry Advising. During peak registration times (March-August), we tend to book up quickly, so please check daily for new time slots that may become available. If you cannot find an available date and time that works with your schedule, OR if you find that we are booked, you may try to meet with us during our student walk in advising sessions. Walk-in hours are on the advising calendar posted on-line: Advising Calendar.
The Chemistry Department strictly enforces the pre-requisite requirements for our courses. As a transfer student, if you have met the prerequisites for a Chemistry course but receive an error message when registering, you will need to receive a permit. A registration permit is an electronic approval to register for a course when OASIS cannot recognize that you have completed the pre/co-requisites. If you have taken any math or science pre-requisite courses at private or out-of-state institutions, you will also need to have those courses evaluated, to determine the USF equivalencies, by the academic department that offers the course.
For more specific information and instructions regarding the requesting of course evaluations and permits, please visit the Course Evaluation and Permit Page.
Please note that it is strongly recommended that students transferring from community/junior colleges to the University of South Florida complete whole sequences of chemistry courses, such as general and organic chemistry, before the transfer. Even though courses may carry the same common course number, topics may vary significantly from school to school, leaving a transfer student ill-prepared to proceed within a sequence.
We hope you will find this page helpful and informational. Please also review our transfer student checklist for Chemistry Department majors (Chemistry Department Transfer Student Checklist) and the other helpful links listed below.
If you have any questions, please contact us at: chemadvising@cas.usf.edu. We look forward to working with you. Best of luck in your first semester at USF!
